Overview

Freedom comes in the recognition that there is choice in everything we do or say. When we are aware of what we need from moment to moment we realize that everything we do or say is motivated by an attempt to meet needs whether skillfully or unskillfully. The essence of Nonviolent Communication lies in our awareness of universal needs and being present to our own feelings and needs. In this class, learn to elicit empathy for dealing with the impact a major life event has on your day to day living.

Find peace through awareness and insight - with a willingness to shift to a “new normal” for dealing with a difficult situation.

Our ability to apply the NVC consciousness in our relationships with others depends on our ability to connect with our needs (Self-empathy).

  • Explore ways to feel the feelings from moment to moment and to be aware of the need(s) generating these feelings.
  • Gain insights, new perspective and a deeper understanding of your own needs and the needs of others.

Possible difficult or challenging life experiences and requests for support include but are not limited to:

  • How do we respond and react when the unthinkable happens? · Your best friend has a stroke at 45 and the relationship changes.
  • Your child is born with a birth defect and is blind in one eye.
  • You adopt a child thinking if you give him all of your love, he can overcome his rough beginning and he is unable to attach to you.
  • Your father was in a car accident and is paralyzed from his neck down at age 73.
  • Your mother died when you were thirteen.
  • You are a reading specialist and your 13 year old is unable to read.
  • You are losing your hearing and your loved ones think you have selective hearing.
