Coaching for Transformation: Using NVC to Facilitate Personal Change 6 Tuesdays, September 9 through October 14, 2008 • 5:00 - 6:30 PM PDT. First Class is Free! In this course, you will develop coaching skills to help people connect with what is most alive in them, to help people understand their deepest needs, values, purpose and vision, and explore the changes they wish to create. Each week, you will partner with another participant to coach each other to prioritize goals and to take action on issues that matter most. While coaching others, you’ll also find new opportunities to build inner awareness, set stretch goals and have a positive impact on society. To maximize the opportunity for personal transformation, all the coaching will be done on real issues – no role plays. Learning Goals: The following goals will guide your learning and work throughout this course.
Class Description: This course is divided into 6 sessions with 90 minute telecourses each week and 60 minutes of coaching practice each week (four practice sessions in weeks 2, 3, 4, & 5). Each module builds on the last, so I encourage you to participate every week. All of the work is optional, but I encourage you to set up practice coaching sessions with classmates or people outside the class so you get the most out of the course. All telecourses will be taped so that you can listen later. Although each session is planned and structured, I'm well known for tossing the agenda and going with what's most alive! Session 1: Introduction — FREE! Session 1 - Telecourse: Introduction to Coaching for Transformation. Listen to a demonstration of coaching using the GROW model and practice asking questions that empower people to build awareness and take action. Sessions 2-6: Skills Deepening Session 2 - Telecourse: Practice a wide range of coaching skills and find out what resonates using round robin coaching. Coaching Practice - Clarify your core values and purpose, and support your client in developing their future based on values, vision and purpose. Session 3 – Telecourse: Practice giving and receiving feedback as a gift, using observations, feelings, needs and requests. Coaching Practice - Help your client define goals, action steps, and power-with accountability structures to achieve their vision. Session 4 – Telecourse: Help clients identify the needs connected to discomfort, expand their comfort zones, set stretch goals, take risks, and try new ways of doing things. Coaching Practice - Help your client tune up their support systems and make requests to get the help they need. Practice acknowledgment and appreciation. Session 5 – Telecourse: Build your NVC coaching practice, engage your clients’ hearts and get paid at a level that you enjoy receiving! Coaching Practice - Work with the inner critic and bedrock assumptions to connect deeply with needs and transform pain. Session 6 – Telecourse: Tag team coaching – use a wide range of skills to coach the facilitator. After harvesting the learning, we’ll explore longing, celebrations and intentions for moving forward.
