The NVC Academy has created the following brief outline as a tool to help you determine whether a course is a good "fit" for you. It is not intended as a pronouncement or rule to be abided by. We fully recognize that people learn and integrate new material at differing rates and timelines. Nevertheless, we're hoping that placing some guidelines around determining your NVC skill level will support your ease and clarity when deciding whether to register for a particular course.
Introductory - Generally, 0-16 hours of NVC training. An Introductory skill level assumes that people have little or no NVC experience, or that people want to be reminded of the basics (expressing honestly, empathy, and the core aspects of NVC consciousness), or that people want to observe how others teach introductory NVC courses. In order to meet the Introductory skill level you may access two FREE NVC Academy Introductory products: Introduction to NVC Online Course and NVC Introduction MP3.
Beginning - Generally, 16 or more hours of NVC training. A Beginning skill level assumes that people are familiar with the basics of NVC (expressing honestly, empathy, and the core aspects of NVC consciousness), but have not had enough training to integrate the basics into their lives. A person at a Beginning skill level will have begun to understand the differentiation between feelings and needs, and will recognize that NVC is a process that could increase their connections with others and themselves. The basics of NVC will not be covered in this course, but they may be expanded on. In order to meet the Beginning skill level you may take the NVC Academy Foundations of NVC Online Course.
Intermediate - Generally, 100 or more hours of NVC training and 1-3 years of experience integrating NVC into their lives. An Intermediate rating assumes that people know the basics of NVC (expressing honestly, empathy, and the core aspects of NVC consciousness), are having success at living NVC in some areas of their life, and are ready to learn and digest greater intricacies of the NVC process. Some specific indications of an Intermediate skill level is having success at recognizing and verbalizing feelings and needs, and having begun to translate judgments into feels and needs (recognizing that judgments aren’t reality).
Advanced - Generally, 300 or more hours of NVC training and 3 or more years of experience integrating NVC into their lives. An Advanced rating assumes that people are well versed in the NVC process, committed to living in NVC, and often demonstrate success in living NVC even in challenging situations or when triggered. Some specific indications of an Advanced skill level are an ability to recognize and take responsibility for one’s actions/feelings/needs, to hear a “no” and stay in the dialogue, to express anger without blame, to receive people empathically even when they are expressing criticism or blame. and to live in a power-with paradigm.
